Try this for your last night of Chanukah.

Serves 12 (Can scale up as desired)

2 cups shredded red potatoes
2 cups shredded sweet potatoes
1/2 cup flour
2 Tbls soy sauce
1-1/2 Tbls shredded ginger
2 Tbls chopped green onions
1/4 cup chopped red onions
2 teas light brown sugar
3 eggs
2 cups Asian bread crumbs (panko)
1 teas sesame seeds
SALT (to taste)
Yogurt for dipping
mandarin oranges

We used sesame oil & olive oil to fry until golden brown

Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford

The first ever Connecticut Latke Throw Down was hosted by The Emanuel Synagogue. Crown Market Chef Stephen Grace was chosen Latke Champion by celebrity judges from four competing chefs. Guests were able to sample the different latke preparations. Comedienne Linda Belt was MC for the afternoon. A vendor bazaar and tea-cup raffle was held at the event with an online auction leading up to it.

WHAT:   Connecticut Latke* Throw Down**
(*A latke is a potato pancake traditionally served on the Jewish holiday of Hanukah.)
(**A Throw Down is a term coined by the Food Network to indicate a cooking contest.)
A Latke Champion will be chosen by celebrity judges from four competing chefs. Guests will be able to sample the different latke preparations. A vendor bazaar and tea-cup raffle will be held at the event with an online auction leading up to it.

WHEN:   Sunday, December 4, 2011, 2:00 pm
The program begins with a cooking demonstration by Cabot Cheese chef Jimmy Kennedy who says “From my Aunt’s potato pancakes that were served at every meal when I lived in Mississippi, to my introduction to latkes in New York City and Vermont, I’ve been eating, making and enjoying different versions of potato pancakes since I was a kid. Today, my favorite version is Sweet Potato and Cabot Cheddar Latkes.”

General Admission $10.00/person in advance. $18.00 at the door. Children under 12 free. $25.00 family cap with advance reservation.
Hot Potato Sponsor $50.00 includes admission for two.
Crispy Latke Sponsor $100.00 includes admission for four.
