Honey Locust Trees planted by Beit Sefer Tichon stufents

We took another step in “greening” Emanuel recently when the students of  Yael Freimann’s Community Service Class of  the  Beit Sefer Tichon planted two eight foot tall honey locust trees.  The trees were purchased with contributions to our Green Building Fund by Bruce Bergman, Dan Fine and Anne Shemkowitz.

In time, the trees will shade the office, an oven in the summer, making it more comfortable and reducing air conditioner use.  The trees will take up CO2, reducing that greenhouse gas, thereby slowing global warming, and they will beautify the area near the parking lot doors.  Our teens each physically had a hand in this true tikkun olam activity.  We’re thinking globally and acting locally by demonstrating the Jewish value of being good stewards of the earth.

We will continue to look for ways to reduce energy use and save money at The Emanuel.  You can help by making a  donation to our Green Building Fund.
