Shabbaton Weekend and Family Program
March 21 – 19, 2010, The Emanuel Synagogue hosted Rabbi Matthew Berkowitz, creator of the Lovell Haggadah and artist of the Passover Illuminations which adorn our lobby. The weekend began Friday evening with Kabbalat Shabbat and ended with a family program on Sunday morning. Rabbi Berkowitz taught at each segment of the weekend, bringing to life his artwork and sparking the imagination of all as we approach this Pesach season.
The photos here are begin Saturday evening and then go to Sunday morning.
The theme of the Sunday morning family program was The Four Children at the Pesach seder. Rabbi Berkowitz first showed how the Four Children were depicted in haggadot over the years, then had the families create their own visual versions of the Wise, Wicked, Simple and Child who Does Not Know Enough to Ask. The program ended with group singing of “The Ba-lad of the Four Children” (to the tune of Oh My Darlin’ Clementine) and finally a presentation by the junior choir.
