Funerals, Mourning & Yahrzeits

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no harm, for You are with me. (23rd Psalm)

When one of our Emanuel family experiences a death, our clergy and staff are ready to help you to navigate the process as you mourn.

Mourner’s Kaddish

The Mourner’s Kaddish is said during the three daily prayer services, in the presence of a minyan (quorum of ten adult Jews), during:

  • Eleven months following the death of a parent or close relative, AND
  • On the Yahrzeit (anniversary) of the death of a parent or close relative. The date for observing Yahrzeit follows the Hebrew calendar, beginning with the evening service, and continues through the following morning and afternoon services. A tool for converting secular calendar dates to Hebrew dates can be found at Hebcal.com.
