Funerals, Mourning & Yahrzeits

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no harm, for You are with me. (23rd Psalm)

When one of our Emanuel family experiences a death, our clergy and staff are ready to help you to navigate the process as you mourn. We have put together the following Funeral Arrangement Information Sheet as a guide to help those in need of making funeral arrangements.

Mourner’s Kaddish

The Mourner’s Kaddish is said during the three daily prayer services, in the presence of a minyan (quorum of ten adult Jews), during:

  • Eleven months following the death of a parent or close relative, AND
  • On the Yahrzeit (anniversary) of the death of a parent or close relative. The date for observing Yahrzeit follows the Hebrew calendar, beginning with the evening service, and continues through the following morning and afternoon services. A tool for converting secular calendar dates to Hebrew dates can be found at Hebcal.com.
