Tish’a B’Av at The Emanuel and in the Community

Tisha B’Av (Hebrew: תשעה באב or ט׳ באב, “the Ninth of Av,”) is an annual fast day in Judaism, named for the ninth day (Tisha) of the month of Av in the Hebrew calendar. The fast commemorates the destruction of both the First Temple and Second Temple in Jerusalem, which occurred about 655 years apart, but on the same Hebrew calendar date.

Saturday, Aug. 6

• 12:30 pm: Mincha services at The Emanuel
• 9:00 pm*: The Emanuel joins the community for Maariv and Eicha (Book of Lamentations) at Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave. West Hartford *Livestream opens at 8:45 pm

Sunday, Aug. 7

• 8:00 am: Shacharit at The Emanuel
• 1:30 pm*: Mincha at Beth El Temple *Livestream opens at 1:15 pm
• 7:00 pm: Maariv at The Emanuel
• 8:42 pm: 9th of Av ends; Maariv said at home for those who fast
