Award-winning journalist Chris Heath will be discussing his book “No Road Leading Back.
“No Road Leading Back” tells the remarkable story of a dozen Nazi prisoners enslaved in an effort to hide Nazi war crimes, forced to exhume and burn the bodies of 70,000 Jews slaughtered in the Lithuanian forest of Ponar in 1941. Amazingly a few of these prisoners dug a tunnel with their bare hands and spoons and managed to escape. While researching this book, Chris traveled to Hartford to interview former UHART archaeologist Richard Freund whose project uncovered the Ponar escape tunnel.
